I am a Ph.D. Candidate in History at University of Melbourne, undertaking research on the history of diary writing in modern China. My thesis examines unpublished diary manuscripts produced by ordinary Chinese individuals under Mao’s rule, with a focus on the period of the Cultural Revolution. My methodological interests are in the areas of Maoist subjectivity, revolutionary self-formation and, more broadly, cultural and political history from below.
