David Roth is a PhD candidate in the School of History at the Australian National University. His thesis topic is ‘Life, Death and Deliverance at Callan Park Hospital for the Insane 1877 to 1923’. He has a particular interest in the mortality of the mentally ill before 1920. His paper on ‘Chemical Restraints at Callan Park Hospital for the Insane before 1900’ has been accepted for publication in Health and History. He is a member of the Australian Historical Association and the Australian and New Zealand Society for the History of Medicine.
