Dr Diana Jefferies is a lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Western Sydney, Australia. She is a registered nurse with an academic background in the humanities. Her research examines historical and literary representations of mental illness after childbirth to investigate the cultural background of stigma. Alison's PhD focused on mothers committed to mental institutions, including a family member, with maternal mental illness in the early twentieth century, Australia. Her research examines the marginalisation of mothers historically and today.
