After graduating in nursing I worked in acute hospital, nursing home and geriatric day care settings. Also studied social work and dance (but not together) and worked as dance practitioner in studio and community settings. My PhD is on nursing in the Boer War. As a health historian I am interested in gendered practices in health care systems and the history of health promotion and exercise prescription. Other research interests include salutogenesis, and the arts in health.
