Peter Woodley is a PhD candidate in the School of History at the Australian National University. His topic concerns rural communities in Dubbo's hinterland between 1880 and 1950, in particular their relations with the town and the metropole, and the emergence of senses of community and local identity as revealed through their social, political and economic transactions.
