Frances Steel is senior lecturer and co-director of the Centre for Colonial and Settler Studies at the University of Wollongong. She researches cultures of mobility, consumption and colonialism in modern Pacific history. She is the author of Oceania under Steam: Sea Transport and the Cultures of Colonialism (Manchester, 2011).
